I initially founded Puddleducks nursery in Sheriff Hutton in June 2012. I was a teacher in a York primary school when I had my first little boy in 2009, and I always wanted to return to my teaching career. This meant, for the first time I stepped inside many local nurseries accompanied by my husband, who was even more anxious than I was at the thought of leaving our baby in the care of someone else. My journey as a mother sparked my vision for Puddleducks; a group of nurseries rooted in love, trust and high standards. I was determined to create a nursery where my own children would set the standards; from day one, it has had to be good enough for them. My three children are now in college, secondary school and primary school but the legacy they inspired certainly lives on.
In July 2022, we opened our second nursery setting, in the beautiful market town of Malton. Our places filled unbelievable quickly, so we followed demand and sourced incredible premises for our third nursery. Our Pickering nursery opened its doors in September 2025. It is a phenomenal place for babies and children to learn and grow, offering extensive outdoor learning opportunities in beautiful gardens.
The team at Puddleducks share an unwavering dedication to giving children the best possible start in life. We are fully committed to providing that exceptional care and early education.
Our staff team has grown from 3 to almost 100 across our 3 nursery sites, and I must give recognition to the truly wonderful people I have working with me, who really do make Puddleducks the place it is. They support my values and ethos and work tirelessly to provide the very best care for our children. We are a close-knit team; we laugh lots; many of us are parents ourselves and therefore share the trials and tribulations of parenting, but most importantly we all share the same view that babies and children deserve the very best care and early education that we can possibly provide, and we will always strive to achieve that. I put our success down to good old-fashioned hard work, passion and unwavering commitment.
The ‘baby’ who inspired me to open Puddleducks is now at college! All 3 of my children have had a wonderful start at Puddleducks, and I will continue to use them and my values as a parent to set the standards within what is most definitely my fourth baby, ‘Puddleducks’.
